This paper shows how reintegration of children with intellectual disabilities activity started by Amizero y’Ubuzima Organization on this Monday 11th March, 2019. This was with the aim of preventing students with disabilities from dropping out of the school, restoring children with disabilities rights to education that had been violated by the decision of the international organization which used to care them, and surprisingly closed 7 integration classes of children with intellectual disabilities in Gisagara and Huye Districts.
On Monday 11 March 2019, Amizero y’Ubuzima Organization started the activity of resuming integration classes. Five centers out of seven were opened. It was not easy to find students who had been sent back to their families. This required much effort…
At the first day, parents accompanied their children. They expressed their gratitude to get the chance for their children to be received and cared.
The centers which were opened are: Tumba, Save, Gisagara, Mugombwa and Kibilizi. In total, 61 students were registered in the first week and there is hope to register more as long as parents get aware of the running of the program and its importance to their children. The Organization is now doing its best to collaborate with various partners to get adequate materials to boost the quality of special need education standards.
Amizero y’Ubuzima Organization is keeping sensitizing both the community and local leaders on the importance of the activity. It is planning to meet local leaders at district and sector level on the 2nd and 3rd days for synergy in identification of children and youth with intellectual disabilities who abandoned or never attended schools and find adequate measures to insure their rights. We also hope to collaborate with both local and international partners to improve the quality of the children and their poor families.
