Throughout Rwandan history, people with disability have been hidden away or subjected to abuse, ignorance and prejudice. One of the main reasons of being of Amizero y’Ubuzima Organization is to advocate for the recognition of the rights of all people with disability with more emphasis on children and youth with intellectual disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others.
AUO advocacy activities focus on Safety from violence and discrimination, Employment, Education, Health and Income.
We work with public and independent lawyers to provide legal representation in the justice system, pursue positive changes to legislation, or give legal advice to people with disability about discrimination and human rights; we also build capacity of people with disabilities and their families for Self-advocacy
